Riverclassroom 2006 Schedule

The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council is pleased to offer high quality, high energy Blackstone River programs at your school. Our educators are lively, talented and knowledgeable presenters. These programs will complement your students learning experience in the classroom and reflect RI/MA curriculum standards.

Programs offered:

Discover the Blackstone (K-12)

This presentation introduces students to the Blackstone River - its history, its natural features and its uses over time. A great classroom experience to lay down Blackstone foundations. (This presentation can also be used as a pre-trip experience before a river boat tour aboard the Blackstone Valley Explorer.) Slide-show and discussion.

Watershed Investigation (grades 3-12)

Students have the opportunity to explore the Blackstone River ecosystem through a classroom-based tour of the Blackstone River Watershed. The investigation builds on the introductory program above and includes hands-on activities focusing on river ecology, water quality, and how human actions affect the watershed.

Eco-Industrial Legacy (grades 5-12) - This multidiscipline program investigates the development of America's Hardest Working River and first polluted river and efforts to revitalize it. Through role-playing and activities, students actively learn how human history and natural history are connected. Students will also learn what they can do to help keep the river clean.

Wetland Habitat, Flood 2005 and its Impact, Historic Preservation, Nature Journaling, Visual pollution and its impact on the Watershed are other topics that can be explored in the classroom setting. In addition, our educators are also available to lead nature/historic walks within the Blackstone Valley for a program fee of $100 per hour.

Pricing

$150 per hour - $200 for two hours (within 25 miles of 02860). Outside of 25 mile radius, additional travel fees may be necessary.

We can work with teachers and youth leaders to tailor your river experience for your class.
