Explorer Receives Grant to Provide Disability Access

The Riverboat Explorer has received a grant from the Paul V. Sherlock Center on Disabilities to upgrade access to the riverboat. The Blackstone Valley Tourism Council recognizes "People First"; that individuals with disabilities are - first and foremost - people. All are welcome on board the riverboat Explorer!

Blackstone Valley Explorer

Once polluted, the Blackstone River has recovered beautifully! On our cruises you may see swan, herons, geese, ducks, turtles, hawks and beautiful plants and trees! The tour guide explains the ecology of the river and surrounding wetlands interspersed with stories about the people and history of the region. If you have never cruised on the Riverboat “Explorer” it is something you must do; and if you have, you can join with us again and again because every time you go on the river, you see something new!

Public Tour Launch Info

  • The Explorer will launch from Festival Pier, Pawtucket, on Sunday, April 19 - April 26.
  • May 3 - September 6 (Labor Day Weekend): Launch from CF Boat Landing
  • September 12 - October 25: Launch from Festival Pier, Pawtucket (water conditions permitting)

2015 Sunday public tours take place 1, 2, 3, and 4 at $10 for adults and $8 for children.

Free tours are sponsored the 4th Sunday of each month by the Blackstone Valley Corridor, Inc.:

New 2015: Free Saturday Environmental Education Tours
Great for family, camp group, friends, scouts, everyone

Thanks to a grant from the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor, Inc. You can schedule a free tour on special Environmental Education Saturdays, once a month, with Blackstone Valley Tourism Council and Sea Research Foundation. You or your group will get the experience operating an underwater remotely operated vehicle (R.O.V.) plus more environmental and scientific experience and information. Dates of this program are: May 2, June 6, July 11, Aug. 1, Sept. 5, and Oct. 3, 2015. There is a cruise at 11 AM or 1 PM. Reservations are required.

Topics covered include watersheds; water cycle; water quality including testing of turbidity,Ph,temperature and dissolved oxygen; pollution and recovery; Marsh and wetlands flora and fauna; and more!

Charter the Explorer

The boat is available for summer camp field trips, birthday parties, and senior groups. It is an opportunity to experience the beautiful Blackstone River. The boat can accommodate up to 40 people. The cost for groups is $250 for one hour, which makes it about $6.25 per person.

Guided Walks

Guided Walking Tours of Valley Falls Heritage Park are available (the Park is across from Central Falls Landing) for $75 for one hour. The Park is an urban archaeology site and the tour covers the Industrial Revolution in the Blackstone Valley and more!  Other venues in the area include Slater Mill, Lincoln Woods State Park, and historic properties along Great Road in Lincoln and many more!
